Camp Grandma

While I was at girls camp the boys went to my moms and did alllll kinds of activities. They swam, rode bikes, camped out-complete with stories, roasted marshmallows, and caught lightning bugs, they also went on the slip and slide and got to ride in uncle Alex's truck. Also, that week Alex took his state administrator exam in Raleigh. He feels pretty good about it! His training is over on friday and he starts his job on monday. I have also been going around with the realtor this week looking at houses. We shall see what we find!

Girls Camp

My church every year has a girls camp. I was a leader this year and we came up with the idea of The Hunger Games. We made it spiritual by using the scripture below. I made parachutes and previously we had parents or "sponsors" write a letter about how they have hungered and thirsted after righteousness and got the girls their favorite treat. You can see the parachutes hanging from the sign I made. We had camp on a lady from church's property in Fairview, NC. It was amazing!
We went to Dupont State Forest (only an hour away) and hiked the trail and saw the waterfall that was in the Hunger Games movie. Dupont State forest is where the movie was filmed. We were all trying to figure out where Katniss finds Peeta in the water.
We also went to Linville Caverns (an hour and a half away) and did the tour. It was amazing! Notice the girls awesome tee shirts we had made.
This is the creek that ran right next to where our tents were. So peaceful at night!
I even made a cornucopia for the girls to run and grab something that would be of use to them at camp. No one grabbed the Peeta poster though! For the rest of camp they used that for putting secret sister gifts in.
We did lots of crafts. And did I mention that I got 8 chigger bites! Alex couldn't even look at them he was so grossed out!
Tie dying the camp shirts.
We had this guy come and teach the girls archery, since that plays a big part in the movie.
I dressed up as Effie Trinket from the movie and did the reaping. I tried to do it in her voice as best as I could and I gave the girls their tent assignments or "districts" and told them they would win a prize for memorizing the scripture. The prize was "berry" gum. It was really hard to walk in heels in the grass!
The peacekeeper tent was where the leaders slept and the districts were where the girls slept. I also made 12 mockingjays to hang from the trees and each girl got one at the end of camp.
We made chalkboard signs with quotes from the book and then added a church quote to go along with it.
I also made 3 tracker jacker nests, luckily those weren't real. Although there was this one HUGE bee looking thing that we named Bob that I think liked the nest and my yellow shirt. There is so much more to say about girls camp, but not enough to words to express. This is my first time going as a leader and I had such a great time even though I am not a camper. I felt uplifted and got to know the girls and other leaders much better. You get to know people pretty well when you only shower once and are with them all day for 4 days! My favorite part of camp was when (unplanned) I was trying to cut a twig with an ax and all I got off was some bark. The girls were making fun of me and I told them it was harder than it looked, so of course they had to try it out and it was hilarious, because no one could break that twig. Finally one of the older girls who went last we able to break it on her first blow. I was laughing a lot during that activity.

Daddy

"Dad, dad, dad, dad, he keeps his room clean with a mop and a broom, dad, dad, dad, dad, he's our dad!" For those of you who aren't Full House know it alls. That is a little ditty that the girls made up about Danny Tanner when they got busted in his room. So, anyway, the boys love playing with their dad. They are both dad's boys, especially Nathan. Last saturday I was gone and Alex took the boys out for a boys day out. What did they do? Well I will tell you what they did. They went and did something that mom would never take them to do. They went and played in the sand. But they didn't just play in the sand. They got down and dirty in the sand. They dumped it on their heads and everything. Alex had to take a picture to document what actually took place on that fateful day and to rub it in to me. The point is, I am glad the boys have a dad that will take them to do stuff like that, because I (being the neat freak and germ-a-phob that I am) wouldn't ever take them to the sandy park or to their t-ball games or wrestle with them or to anywhere else that dads take their boys. So, thank you Alex for being a great dad and Happy Father's Day to all the wonderful dads out there!

Work

Apparently this is what Alex does at work all day.

A Grandma's Estate Sale

The blue shirt, the pin stripe pants, and the red polka dot dress all came from an estate sale. All of these items belonged to an old woman. I got each item for $1 each. I also got a purple dress for a dollar. Alex said the pants look like pj's. I am loving them, because they are just as comfy. I love old women(I am talkin 80+, I love their hobbies, I love their clothes, I love their household items, and I can't wait to be one!

The house that wasn't for sale

Back when we lived with Alex's parents we met this couple there who invited us over to dinner. We complemented them on their home and then said that they had found in a way that most people don't. It wasn't for sale and they loved it. So they walked up to their door and asked if they could buy it and the people said yes! I found this house I love. Here are the reasons I love it: -Built in 1927 with lots of character -Big wrap around front porch with only a few steps to get up -2 story -4 bedrooms and 2,200 sq ft -hidden away by trees in a nice neighborhood -great location, right off of Hendersonville road by Ingles, but quite because of all the trees. -Glen arden school district which I have heard wonderful things about-top rated school in Buncombe county -about 5 minutes to the church building -about 20 minutes to Alex's work Down side=not for sale Plus side=I can still go ask if they want to sell it, so I did She kind of laughed and said, "anything is for sale for the right price". She said she had originally bought the house in 2006 (height of the market) with the intent to flip it, but then the market went down and hasn't sold it yet. She said she would sell it, but was asking for $400,000 for it. I looked online by typing the address into google and found the stats. She bought it for $200,000! She had made some improvements, and she isn't really wanting to sell it, hence the high price. But I was kind of sad when she told me the price, because I was so excited that we could afford it. There are some other houses in that neighborhood that I like that aren't for sale that I will also be asking about soon. Here are two of them:

Air Fair

Yesterday, we went to the WNC Air Museum air fair. We go every year and watch airplanes. It is free and it is fun, so you know the Tuckers are there!
In other news, Blake has kept the bed dry for 6 days in a row now!
